We hosted an intimate Mothers Day- AAPI Event for individuals part of the AAPI- Football Community with former U.S. Women’s National Team players Ronnie Fair-Sullivan and Lorrie Fair Allen. We held a safe space to converse about the traditional outlook on Asian and Pacific Islanders playing sport.
“I’ve never been in a space filled with people from the AAPI-Football community so I decided to have an event for just that. I have learned so much form my Vietnamese Mother and tribute a lot of my success to have watching her work so hard from a young age. This event means a lot to me and by the tears we had from multiple people, I can tell it meant a lot to the ones who participated as well.”
We of course got outside with our Nike trainer to get us moving and warmed up as FFH Founder Shawna Palmer then incorporated a ball for our exercise. We gathered back inside to share what we loved about our mother/daughter, our heritage, and ourself before getting some AAPI Trivia on followed by food!
“After listening to you all (parents) tell your story about not being allowed to play sports, I feel really grateful to just be able to play soccer.”
